Echo Garden

回              音              院

Inspired by quiet runs, abandoned gardens, and the feeling of time gently passing. Echo Garden explores the intersection of memory and nature. I wanted to create a space that feels both peaceful and mysterious, where every texture, shadow, and soundless echo hints at a forgotten story.

MATERIALS

I used vertex painting to layer in sand and dirt and debris across the surface, giving it a worn, natural look. To push the realism further, I also added scattering, mixing in small rocks and fallen leaves, to help everything blend together more naturally and break up any uniformity in the textures.

In the video, I started with a base layer of brick tiles, then layered dirt and sand on top to simulate built-up debris in areas of wear and foot traffic. The video demonstrates how I used vertex painting directly in the engine to fine-tune the blending, especially around edges, corners, and lower areas where buildup would naturally occur. This approach helped the environment feel more organic and lived-in, while keeping the shader flexible and lightweight.

The scattering helped soften transition between materials and added a layer of organic detail to the environment. By scattering these elements procedurally and manually in key areas. I was able to create more natural looking ground blending and improve overall visual cohesion.
